Oblivious-New York Lady
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my contribution to this week's DPW Challenge. It wsa hosted by the fine artist, Linda Popple.
I really enjoy this weekly challenge. It forces me to paint an extra piece each week. Plus I enjoy jumping in to paint from an unfamiliar picture with a hurry-up deadline. Actually, the DPW Challenge doesn't impose a deadline...I self impose it to get it done within that week. It's like flying (or painting, Lol) by the seat of your pants.
It is great fun to see the various solutions these fine artists come up with!

Noom From Thailand-Portrait
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my contribution to the WDE on Wet Canvas. The hostess was Dewi. She's from Thailand and offered up some great photos of Thailand and it's people. I liked the composed, confident, look on this fellow's face (his name is Noom).

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
I wish you all a happy and blessed Easter. Please remember the true meaning. Keep love and hope alive in your hearts.....The best is yet to come.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Luke 23:34 NIV
Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Mark 16: 4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.

Chick Trio
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my submission to Carol Marine's DPW Challenge. As per the challenge, this is a split complementary of yellow orange, blue, and purple. This applies to the colors of the objects or areas within the painting...not the palette.
I know that the principle is sound. But I'm not too sure about the result I achieved. Will have to evaluate it more/longer.
I like the symbolism of chicks at this time of year. The promise of New Life at Spring! Easter! God's Promise to us!

Luke 23:23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

Easter Pinup-Keeta The Cat
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my painting for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Shar was the gracious hostess this week who supplied the reference photos. This was done from a picture of her cat, Keeta.
Keeta was decked out in the Easter bonnet in the photo in an inside setting. I added the floral setting from another reference photo. I like how it all came together.
I managed to give it plenty of texture and color.
Hope you all like it!

"You Lookin' At ME?"-Chicken
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
The tough expression on this ol' bird kinda reminded me of Robert De Niro in "Taxi Driver".
This is my submission to Carol Marine's DPW Challenge. This one was fun 'cause I have a thing for painting chickens...Lol!
I lay down a lot of paint on this one using both a palette knife and brushes.

Triple Header-Doggies
Painting Progression
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step #1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step #1
I first applied mid tone gesso for texture then toned it with thinned reddish acrylic.
I used thinned mixture of pthalo blue, aliz.crimson, and burnt umber to make a fairly detailed line drawing. In a painting this complex, I figured I had better have a pretty good map!
I first established the darks with the same thinned mixture I used for the drawing. Then I started adding the different patches of colors trying to keep them colorful (push the color).
Oil on 5x7 hardboard. This is my submission to the WDE. Kay was the hostess and very graciously supplied the photo...Thanks, Kay!
I tried to get a lot of broken color and freshness into this one. I enjoyed the attempting.

In My Father's Footsteps-Landscape
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my submission to the DPW Challenge. This week, it's hosted by that tremendous artist, Carol Marine.
Loved piling the paint on with brush and palette knife.
This picture struck me as a road that had been walked by generations of people. Each traveling in their own thoughts, yet all very similar. Then I thought of the many roads Jesus traveled...and how we all should strive to walk in His light.
Such are the confessions of my meandering mind...Lol.

Wanta Hear The New Word I Learned?-Parrots
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
I painted this for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Li was the gracious hostess who supplied the reference pictures.
I could just imagine these two talking to each other. " Wanta hear the new word I learned from the old man when he was working on the car? It must be GREAT...'cause when I said it, it made her scream!"
