Palm Sunrise

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.

I scrambled and painted this one today. I just had to do a final one for the year of 2007. Hope ya like it. Hope it makes you feel warm on a cold winter's night. Hope your fondest dreams come true in the upcoming year. I hope we all hold on to hope. Keep the Faith.
Happy New Year, Dean

    I've Been Tagged

I have been tagged by a very talented artist Kim Shields.

Here are the rules: 1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog. 2. Share 5 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird. 3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as wellas links to their blogs. 4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

    Stuff about me..
1....I come from a rather large family. There were 11 kids in all...I still miss all the excitement of those long ago Christmas mornings!
2....I played lead guitar and sang up until a few years ago...Country and old Rock.
3....Favorite smells...bacon frying and coffee brewing in the morning....ahhh.
4....I love to tone my canvases with an uneven reddish color prior to painting....Then when I see the beautiful marbled look, I'm really inspired to paint.
5....I pray a lot. It has helped me get through impossibly hard times.

I'd like to tag these great artists:

  • Jimmy Longacre

  • Artoutwest
    Kathy Jurek
    Connie Tom
    Toni Grote

    Last Glimmer-Sunset

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
The darks were applied thinly...the lights are a different story. They are thick at the horizon, applied with a painting knife. The painting is a bit darker than I originally intended, but that makes the horizon really accentuated. The close up gives a better idea of the actual color...couldn't get the full size to photograph quite right.

    White Longhorn-Western Art

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
It seems I have been on some new ground, exploring different aspects of art in the last several paintings..but that is how you learn. But when I started doing this longhorn, I felt on familiar ground, once again. And the feeling is very good and welcome.
I applied exhuberant colors with both a painting knife and a brush...forget about subtelty...Loved it!! After several years of searching, I feel as though I have found my "style"...my "signature"....but who knows how I'll feel tomorrow??

    Deep Forest Doe

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
For this one, I just let the painting make the decisions for me. I had something a little different in mind when I started....but, well.....sometimes it's more fun to just roll with the flow. Thanks for looking.

    Colorful Cow

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
This painting was actually posted a few months ago. It was rather on the dark side, and I believe for that reason it didn't receive any bids on eBay. So, in the interest of science (Heh), I have repainted the bovine. I added more bright colors plus lighter values. Hope this time I get to stick a shipping label on her butt and ship her out!
So now, it's a portrait of a cow set against a gorgeous sunset skyline.. I really enjoyed doing this one! The oils were applied thickly in selected areas and turned out really well in the fur texture!Hope you enjoy!!
