Serengeti Sundown-Elephants

I knew something was badly wrong about the colors in my image, but try as I may, I couldn't come close to solving the problem. Well, low and behold, today I solved it...so simple. I take all the photos of my art inside with a light setup that works for me. The camera had gotten on daylight setting instead of incandescent. It's been incorrectly set that way for at least a couple of weeks! No wonder I wasn't satisfied with my color adjustments. Anyhow, Here's a much truer image. ( Sorry about the confusion).

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Joel was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

I combined two photos for this painting. A beautiful sundown and two elephants. Something about painting elephants touches a sad spot in my heart, knowing their plight just to survive a bit longer on this planet.

This is oil on a 5x7 canvas board. Part painting knife and part loaded brush. Plenty of paint for texture. I had to re-invent some of the lighting....never an easy thing to do.
Hope ya'all like it!

From The Heart-Figurative

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Marianne was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

The harpist appears to really be into what he's playing ....harp from the heart.
This is oil on a 5x7 canvas panel. I wanted to do it all in knife, but I kept chickening out in tight spots...so this is about 50/50, brush and knife.
I wish I had made the background a different value or different color for more separation. I just don't feel like investing more time into it.

Poser-Cat Portrait

 Close ups

Oil on a 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Scatty was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

It looked as though this cat saw the camera and struck a pose!

I toned this support with a thin later of alizarin crimson. That original toning makes up much of the background. I used some painting knife plus a heavily loaded brush.

C&C welcome. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your much appreciated comments!

Veterans Day 2013

 Close ups

This painting was first posted in 2010. I needed something to commemorate today and this filled the bill.

Today is also known as Remembrance Day. So let us remember and earnestly thank God for the generations of service personnel who have so unselfishly defended this great country of ours. Many times with blood and to the last beat of their hearts.
Remember always to praise and pray. Praise our finest young citizens in the service...And pray for peace.
Despite all the ugly rumors, American pride is still alive and well. God bless all who are in the service of our great country...and all who ever were.

Psalm 16:8 I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Luke 20:36
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

Softness-Child Portrait

 Close ups

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Valri was the host and provided a bunch of great photos!

This is in pencil with touches of warm brown colored pencil on Cotman water colour pad. It's approx 7x7. The hardest thing is in knowing when to set the pencil down and stop.

I tried to take a soft approach to this little girl's portrait. It can be very difficult to keep edges soft. I especially try to avoid hard lines in the features of a child. Easier said than done.

C&C welcome. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Much appreciated!

All Ears-Dog Portrait

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Lin was the hostess who supplied all the great photos!

The papillon was just too cute to pass up.
Every time I come back to acrylics, I'm always striving to get looser....mostly with no success.
I'm pretty satisfied with this one. Will wonders never cease???!!
