I decided to try the water lilies. Since I seldom do florals, thought I
should do it in a style and technique which are strangers to me
also......impressionism and the fracturing technique. The fracturing
technique is the style belonging to<a href="http://juliefordoliver.blogspot.com/2014/09/pomegranate-trio-day-26-in-challenge.html" target="_blank"> Julie Ford Oliver</a>.<br />
I'm not overjoyed at my result. But, hey...it's all about learning.<br />

I know from firsthand experience what a hold these four legged members of the family can have on the heart.<br />
<br />
“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.<br />It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”..... John Grogan <br />

I settled on doing the rider. The toughest problem was trying to
straighten out the shadows and legs as I eliminated the "horse
whisperer" walking on the other side. Then, making up the background is
always a challenge for me.<br />

Ravens are super smart birds and are truly impressive looking! In my younger days, I had a pet crow named Crawford. Crows and ravens are very similar.<br />
<br />
I really wanted to paint this over a ground of black gesso. It really

didn't have time to apply gesso and have it dry completely. So I did it
against a ground of thinned red acrylic....just didn't have the same
feel.<br />

for my country because it feels like hope is being dashed by all these
huge rapid fire changes." This is only my honest opinion, so if I rile
anyone , I apologize.<br />
<br />
I am also of the opinion that there is a much higher power than Washington,DC. He is watching over us all.<br />
And through Him, we will pull through fine.<br />
I am proud of the the USA. Look at any country (or person) closely enough and you will see faults. But there's an overwhelming amount to be <span style="font-weight: bold;">proud</span> of...not ashamed of.<br />
<span style="font-weight: bold;">Happy birthday America</span>!!!! Know that you are still loved!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-weight: bold;">God bless the USA!</span></div>

<br />
Had to try her Boston Terrier named Henry! That innocent expression really needed to be painted.<br />
<br />
This is oil on a 7x5 canvas panel. I first toned the support with red
acrylic, then painted away with oils (thickly applied in selected
spots). I debated about painting the background, but decided against it.
The little guy looked perfectly at home against the original acrylic
background.<br />
Hope ya like it!<br />

I just had to do the Brahman bull. <br />
Last week Kate did a fine painting along the lines of the watercolor
master, Judi Betts. She's been a favorite of mine for years, so I
researched her methods. This is my poor attempt at her technique.
Instead of watercolor this is acrylic on a 5x7 gesso board. I had it
going pretty good then started to overwork it.<br />
<br />
Ros also suggested that we use a media that different than our normal. Thanks for the challenge, Ros!<br />

A talented friend at the WDE commented " I would define the bottom a bit. It's now a sandwich with bottom and
upper part red and the interesting part in the middle. By letting the
yellow (or black)partly enter the bottom part it makes it less
symetrical. Just a thought<img alt="" border="0" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif" title="Smilie" />"<br />
<br />
I saw exactly what she meant (ah, the value of fresh eyes)! So I added more yellows in the bottom left...a bit more hide color down the
right side....plus a hint of color down the front of her neck. I think
it all helped to make the painting seem more complete.<br />
Thanks for those suggestions, Connie! <img alt="" border="0" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif" title="Thumbs Up" /><br />

Loved the intense gaze of the lioness. The big cats are fascinating.<br />
This is oil on a 5x7 canvas panel. I pushed myself to take a more colorist approach on this one, and I really enjoyed it. I'm fairly happy with the result.<br />

I really like painting roosters. Colorful guys with a ton of attitude.<br />
<br />
Plenty of knife work on this one. But the brush
was used in the tight spots. I attempted to keep this one loose and
painterly. Hope I succeeded.<br />
