Ray, A Golden Drop Of Sun-Deer

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Kay was the gracious hostess.
Just had to paint this doe.
I immediately started hearing the Julie Andrews song from The Sound Of Music, "Doe A Deer". Thus the long title, "A Drop Of Golden Sun" (I emphasized the sun behind the doe's head.

The reference photo

Once again, The background is completely "fly by the seat of your pants" made up from the imagination.
Oftentimes, when doing a background like this...not having an idea of where I'm going...it can be pretty intimidating and can be easily put off "until later". But when I jump right in ( like jumping into a pool of COLD water)  I feel especially rewarded . I mean of course, when it turns out at least half way right. I enjoy seeing all the paint surprises that happened along the way.

Himalayan Cat

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas.

There is such a wide variety of cats, and many breeds have very unique appearances.
This Himalayan is pretty captivating.
I applied the paint with brushes, and painting knife, and and put my fingers to work blending when nothing else seemed to do what I wanted.
That's a "fly by the seat of the pants" background....completely invented.

Happy Father's Day-Still Life

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my contribution to this week's DPW Challenge. This week, it's the Gift Challenge presented by Carol Marine.

I decided to combine it with Father's Day to kill two birds with one stone.

In looking back at some of my older art on this blog, I felt my present style is getting more understated...laid back...even ho hum perhaps???
So I decided to kick painting inhibitions in the butt with this one, and add plenty of color pizazz!
I must admit, it feels great! Exciting again!
At this point, I don't know if it's over done or too wild to even hold together as art.
I'll let you decide that for me with your comments (if you will be so kind).

Oblivious-New York Lady

Close ups
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my contribution to this week's DPW Challenge. It wsa hosted by the fine artist, Linda Popple.
I really enjoy this weekly challenge. It forces me to paint an extra piece each week. Plus I enjoy jumping in to paint from an unfamiliar picture with a hurry-up deadline. Actually, the DPW Challenge doesn't impose a deadline...I self impose it to get it done within that week. It's like flying (or painting, Lol) by the seat of your pants.
It is great fun to see the various solutions these fine artists come up with!
