Out My Window-White German Shepherd

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This painting is from the street in front of my house. A veritable parade of humanity and animals pass by every day. For a long time I have thought this would be a great source for painting subjects. So, this is the first of what could be a long running series.
I really liked the look of this white German shepherd.

Life Is Just A Bowl Of

Close ups.

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

Bought some great looking cherries. Thought, "Need a nice easy, quick painting. Should be able to knock off a couple of cherries in no time and have something to post on the ol' blog." Of course, I knew down deep this was not to be so. Seems that everyone in blogville has had the same thought at one time or another...but they soon come nose to nose with reality! Cherries are not really that simple within a painting.

I wound up having to create interest in the form of color, lighting, etc. In other words, this whole thing is totally invented in order to produce a painting. The original still life lacked life. I feel satisfied with it...but a little later, who knows?

Hawaii

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
Ahhh...Hawaii. Kick back, relax, and dream.
It seems that every landscape is a chance to explore and try different "what ifs".
I had fun with this one...abundant paint, not getting bogged down in details, and checking out "what ifs".

End Of An Era

"And that's the way it was..."

Close ups

Graphite on Canson Bristol Vellum. Around 8.5x6 inches.

Yesterday we lost an American icon, Walter Cronkite. He reported true unbiased news...without spin or injected opinion. Pure news. News not infected by partisan slant. One would be very hard pressed to find his type of reporting in the majority of today's so called "news".

The Silent Conversation

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my latest submission to Karin Jurick's inspirational DSFDF. This time she invited us to render the ever-challenging human figure.

This fellow looks as if he's on break or just plain relaxing. At such times the mind sometimes takes mysterious journeys to the long ago past...the far away future...or to the comforting contemplation of Jesus.

Above It All Down Under-Koala

Close ups.

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

The reference photo for this painting was provided by Sandy for the WDE at Wet Canvas.
I just had to try this cute eucalyptus leaf muncher! The biggest challenge for me were the many subtle colors in the soft toned gray fur.
I started with a painting knife then switched to a brush...this seems to inspire and remind me to apply the paint generously. An enjoyable painting for me. Hope y'all like it. :)

The Better To Hear You With

Close ups.

Acrylic on 7x5 hardboard.
The image of this fine looking donkey was supplied by Jean for the WDE at Wet Canvas.

This is the first time I have ever used Golden Open Acrylics and I really like 'em! The only problem I have is using them like acrylics instead of oils. That is I still use them too thinly as I have regular acrylics of the past. I need to use them more like oils to achieve the textures and brushwork that I want.

Happy 233rd Birthday!

Close ups

Acrylic on hardboard. I intentionally left this in this stage of development. I could have smoothed, blended, etc.-But this was at the right place to convey the intense emotion I feel about our great nation on this 2009 Independence Day.

I have always held patriotism for the United States of America strongly in my heart-but for the first time in my adult life I am afraid for my country because it feels like hope is being dashed by all these huge rapid fire changes." This is only my honest opinion, so if I rile anyone , I apologize.

I am also of the opinion that there is a much higher power than Washington,DC. He is watching over us all.
Anyhow, happy birthday, America! God bless the USA!
