At Wood's Edge-Landscape
Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
This is for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Jean graciously supplied the reference photos.
When it came to landscape paintings, I always kinda drug my feet. I'd think... too much information/details in front of me. Always a bit intimidated I suppose.
But more and more I see that there's a world of creative freedom when doing a landscape.
With that in mind, I handled this one almost like an abstract (something else I tend to avoid..). In doing this one, I felt the freedom! Just being involved in balancing colors...line control...achieving a focal point. Just PAINTING!

I see you also give us a great view of the brushtstrokes. Lovely work.
ReplyDeleteVous avez bien raison on cher Dean de ne pas être le prisonnier de la réalité ... ici vous avez poussé une barrière!!! celle de votre ressenti.
ReplyDeleteBisous et bon weekend
Beautiful. Love the dark trees against that orange.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the free brush strokes and the effect you created.. the colors remind me of old masters..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful... love the impressionist feel, the colors and texture! I like how you cropped the original photo and centered in on this area.
ReplyDeleteI think it is gorgeous, Dean! Beautiful colors and rich full forest...another dream location in which to live in my mind. I tend to shy away from animals, people, and still lifes myself. (What does that leave besides landscapes??? LOL)
ReplyDeleteThe scene is captivating, Dean. I love the intimacy of a skyless view. My latest painting is pallid and anemic, looking at this I know I am in need of texture in my work.
ReplyDeleteI love the dreaminess you captured in this. Perhaps you think of it as abstract because you eliminated a lot of detail, but the result is very appealing. Perhaps you shouldn't shy away from landscapes so much...
ReplyDeleteIt was great going through your posts and reading your comments. As always Dean, love your work and you should do more landscape stuff!
ReplyDeleteGreat values in the yellows and greens.
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to take a walk in the woods.
ReplyDeleteit's dream-like
ReplyDeletehi dean, you have captured it so well. love it,ben
ReplyDeletegreat little landscape. It's funny, these small pieces (7x5) can have the appearance of such a 'big expanse', love that. I can hardly wait til it gets warm enough to go paint outside again- we're almost there!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting...lots of color and detail..
