Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
The painter looked as though he was in his element and completely happy-thus my title. Hmmm...could have titled it " Duck In Water". We are so blessed to be able to do what we do as artists.
The image was supplied by Kay for the WDE at Wet Canvas.
Just before painting this, I went to Kevin Macpherson's web site for inspiration. I painted this directly from my monitor much like an alla prima plein air.
I am happy with how this one turned out and it was so easy to paint.
Hope y'all like it!

This is wonderful Dean! I like the subtle strokes of warm color that offset the cool...and yes as artists we are a lucky bunch of ducks!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy this very much Dean. I love the way you captured this artist with simple strokes that tell a lot! That is a sign of a great artist! I have to agree with the signs!!
ReplyDeleteThis piece has a beautiful feel to it of perfect contentment and pleasure. You did a fabulous job rendering the "good life".
ReplyDeleteNo matter what we do in life if we do it with passion it will be the "good life".....
One of your best.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece Deano.
This brought a smile to my face. This fellow seems to really enjoy what he's doing and yes it is the good life. Bravo

ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!
Great job. -Don
Fantastic painting, Dean! Love the brushwork and the title (also the name of a great song).
ReplyDeleteokay now what does Kevin MacPherson have to do with this? does he paint from the monitor instead of printing the image on paper?
ReplyDeleteWhatever....you've done a really great job of this! :)
A masterful job, Dean. I love the brushstrokes of the scene this artist is seeing with his eyes...hints of trees...For some reason, I am also reminded of James Parker...possibly the hat the gent is wearing. What a fabulous feel this painting has!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dana...I enjoyed the toning warms popping through...then I added a few warm strokes right at the last.
ReplyDeleteHey, Saundra...Thanks for stopping in and the cheering comment.

ReplyDeleteBeautifully done, Mr. Dean! I like how there are bits of orange showing here and there. I also love the title -- I think it really fits. Thanks for the blog link, by the way. I linked back to your blog too :)

ReplyDeleteHi, Celeste. Your Q..."what does Kevin MacPherson have to do with this? does he paint from the monitor instead of printing the image on paper?"
ReplyDeleteHe is not known for painting from monitors. I just went to his site and viewed his great plein air alla prima work for inspiration. His style and use of color put me in the right mood for this particular painting.
I like painting from the monitor because the colors are so much clearer than a printout. I can "pretend I'm right there doing an a plein air.
Thanks, Autumn! Lol...he does remind me of James.
