Best Friend

Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.

I tried to force myself to use fewer strokes (didn't succeed like I wanted to....except on the B/G). I also varied the edges more...that's something I found that I like in others' paintings.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE.

  4. Thanks, Edward. Brushwork has been and is a goal of mine. It lends so much to what I look for in a painting. I'm not there yet, but will keep trying.

  7. Hi Dean - nice to meet you! thanks for stopping by my blog - I agree, the brushwork on this is gorgeous. I have been toning canvasses red lately, but haven't done that with my pet portraits, do you? I'd love to try the yellow ochre tone you mention in your other entry.

  8. Oh yes, Nancy...try toning with red for a pet portrait! I REALLY like it with white subjects. I sets up a complementary sparkle with bits of the under toning peeking out!
