Best Friend
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
I tried to force myself to use fewer strokes (didn't succeed like I wanted to....except on the B/G). I also varied the edges more...that's something I found that I like in others' paintings.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE.

WONDERFUL painting, Dean - GREAT brushwork!
ReplyDeleteHee! Puppyhood personified. Love love love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Dean. Found your site through Karen's DSFDF site which i just recently found. Love your work. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Edward. Brushwork has been and is a goal of mine. It lends so much to what I look for in a painting. I'm not there yet, but will keep trying.
ReplyDeleteDean
It's good to "see" you again, Cedar! Thanks, and stop back soon.
ReplyDeleteHey, Robin...glad you found me and thanks for the great compliment! Please stop back often.
ReplyDeleteHi Dean - nice to meet you! thanks for stopping by my blog - I agree, the brushwork on this is gorgeous. I have been toning canvasses red lately, but haven't done that with my pet portraits, do you? I'd love to try the yellow ochre tone you mention in your other entry.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Nancy...try toning with red for a pet portrait! I REALLY like it with white subjects. I sets up a complementary sparkle with bits of the under toning peeking out!
ReplyDeleteGreat job as usual... I love the edges.
ReplyDeleteOh... Deano.....
ReplyDelete[sounds like the start of a song]
I love this! You're such a master of color and shape.
P.S. Love seeing your mug on your blog finally.

Thank you, Helen...that was one of my main concerns on this one.
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like the start of a song...remember..oh Donna...oh Donna...
