Jefferson Memorial

Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
This is my submission to the latest challenge on Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks. A nocturnal scene of the Washington, DC landmark, the Jefferson Memorial.
I don't do many landscapes...I do even fewer man made structures...and this is an even rarer painting of a night scene.
There is a glare in the upper right...sorry. Just very difficult the photograph dark colors done in oil using textured strokes.
I improved the photo today(Jan.15) so I put it up in place of the old one.

  1. I like that you are out of your comfort zone too but you did and outstanding job. Thanks for sharing that with us. Love your choice of colors and cropping. Okay... now I really REALLY need to do this challenge.

  3. You did a really nice job on this Dean. If you weren't comfortable painting this it sure doesn't show. I should try this too. Never painted a nighttime scene.

  4. Hi, Sheila! Yes, you really do need to do this DSFDF if at all possible. A nocturnal scene seems to come with it's own set of challenges. Quite fun once you get into it.

Looking forward to seeing your solutions!

  10. Hi, Vern. I have avoided posting an image of me until now.
This was my meager attempt to side step the huge amounts of forthcoming traffic which I know will be streaming through my blog to catch a glimpse of me. Plus all the ensuing cries for my artwork merely to obtain my autograph.
    Ah well..it is out now...heh,heh...
