Best Friend
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
I tried to force myself to use fewer strokes (didn't succeed like I wanted to....except on the B/G). I also varied the edges more...that's something I found that I like in others' paintings.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE.

Red-Headed Woodpecker
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
We just had a ton of white stuff roll through Ohio since last night. Just now stopping at 4 pm. I remember when I looked forward to a big ol' snow and would play in it for hours at a time. Now I shudder at the word...I've seen more than enough this year. Ain't it funny what a difference a mere half century (plus) can make?
Since I didn't feel like going outside and playing, I painted this red-headed woodpecker.

The Gaggle
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
This image is from WDE at Wet Canvas...it was supplied by Desiree.
I loved doing the geese. I tried to keep it painterly and lively in a creative way in the background.
Here is an ultra close up. It looks like a little fiery abstract waiting to happen. :)

San Francisco Victorian
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
This is my submission for Karin Jurick's DSFDF. Architecture has never been one of my strengths when it comes to subject matter. So this week's challenge dragged me kicking and screaming out of my comfort zone. Thanks, Karin...I needed that.

Obama Portrait
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
Well no matter what your opinion, pro or con, for or against the new administration.... America, like a ship has been launched on a course bound for we know not where...we can only hope for good events along the way to our destination.
This painting was done from an image as Obama gave his inauguration speech.

Can Can Dancers
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
I tried to capture the exuberance and motion in this one. The subject matter says "Talouse Latrec ", so I went for an impressionistic style. I wanted to put the center girl in the spotlight.
The reference photo was supplied by Christine for the WDE at Wet canvas.

Keep The Doctors Away
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
Ah, the simple apple...a favorite subject among many still life artists. In my opinion it beats out the female nude as subject matter....the apple won't complain if the room is cold...the neighbors won't be breaking their necks trying to peer into your studio window....the apple doesn't charge big $ per hour. Actually, I believe it might be hard picking up a nude at the super market...haven't really tried, though...might be wrong.

Yours Truly By Carolee Clark
This is an extraordinary painting of me done by Carolee Clark.
This painting is a collage of watercolor pieces (from old watercolor paintings). They are cut and pieced together to fit like a puzzle. She really nailed my good looks and suave demeanor (heh, heh) using this difficult media! Seriously though, thanks for doing such a beautiful job, Carolee!
This was created for the portrait swap conducted by Karin Jurick's DSFDF.
My portrait of Carolee is here.
Laid Back Cat
Oil on 7x5 gessoed hardboard.
Instead of my normal red, I pre toned the surface with a yellow ochre acrylic. In it's progression, it went through several stages that I really liked...sorry, I didn't take photos along the way. I aimed to keep much of it loose and mysterious. I learned quite a bit with this one.
The image for this painting was provided by Kay for this week's WDE at Wet Canvas.

Jefferson Memorial
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
This is my submission to the latest challenge on Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks. A nocturnal scene of the Washington, DC landmark, the Jefferson Memorial.
I don't do many landscapes...I do even fewer man made structures...and this is an even rarer painting of a night scene.
There is a glare in the upper right...sorry. Just very difficult the photograph dark colors done in oil using textured strokes.
I improved the photo today(Jan.15) so I put it up in place of the old one.

Bluebird
Oils on 7x5 hardboard.
Back to my favorite medium...oils! I wanted to react to the paint....so I laid the paint on pretty thickly and just let it suggest to me what to do.....not sure I listened very well. :)

His Majesty
I wanted to try the same technique as my last post. Acrylic on hardboard. Drawn in ink with Pitt artist pen. Thin washes of acrylic...then thicker opaque layers to finish.
