Different Strokes Portrait
Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
This is my submission to the latest challenge on Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks.... a painting of a fellow artist. I was struck by the deep understanding and peace in her eyes...it was my goal to capture that look. Karin threw all the names into a hat and paired them up. So this lady will be painting me....hope she's up to a grueling experience. Every time I look in the mirror I see Elvis and George Clooney. I hope she can get the real me....ummm...or maybe not..heh.

Really nice Dean, you did do a wonderful job on her eyes. You can sense emotion in them. This is a fun challenge, interesting to see what people look like or how the artist sees them at least.
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb...Yes, it is indeed a fun and interesting challenge. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job on your DSFDF challenge!
Hi Dean - I like this portrait. I missed the deadline to submit a photo so didn't get to participate - too much going on at the time. Looks like everyone is having fun with this one though.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't make the deadline, Karen.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda happy with the portrait. My original intention was to be dark... like it is. But my second thoughts are saying maybe I should have used some vibrant colors.
Wonderful mood as well as a beautiful painting. As usual!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. I appreciate you stopping in. I checked out your site....you do beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteDean, I've been having some posting problems and I see that my comments yesterday did not go through. You did a beautiful job on this painting with some real emotion showing in her eyes. I also liked your Explorers and His Majesty pieces a lot. The dark outline and bold colours have a striking effect. All the best in 2009
ReplyDeleteHi, Vern. Thanks for sticking with it and commenting again.
ReplyDeleteThe eyes were my main concentration on the portrait. I only wish I had used more striking color in places.
The acrylic pieces were fun to get back into once again.
Hi Dean,
ReplyDeleteThis portrait is of me. Nice job of making me look younger and prettier :) I was wondering if I could have your permission to post the image on my blog with a link to yours?
Hey, Carolee...
ReplyDeleteSure you can post it on your blog. I should have spent a few more hours/days on it.
Let me know if I may do the same with your outstanding portrait of me on my blog.
I love your DSFDF portrait. She looks kind and wise.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sheila. That is what I saw also when I looked at the photo.
ReplyDeleteDean...you did a beautiful job on this painting...It almost seems like you painted her from life instead of a photo...it has a lovely "inner" presence. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHello, Celeste, my friend. Thank you for your thoughts on this one. That was my primary goal in this instance...to achieve an alla prima from life appearance. You make me feel as if I were close.
