Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Mike was the great host. Thanks for the terrific reference photos, Mike.
I really liked the sly guy...Mr. fox. I had done a painting of a wolf peering out through autumn leaves in '06. I went back and found where I had posted it on my blog so that I could use it as reference. Then, I just used the same idea for this red fox.

Luke 211 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
He IS a handsome fellow, Dean. And I wish you a very wonderful Christmas and all the best of everything in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteIl a l'air bien rusé ce renard... Je pense, moi, que vous avez été plus malicieux que lui, car vous avez réussi à merveille à peindre toute son espièglerie!!!
ReplyDeleteHe's beautiful Dean! The autumn leaves are genius!
ReplyDeleteLove the shadowing on his head. Beautiful painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katherine! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteMartine said: It has l' air well crafty one this fox… I think, me, which you were more malicious than him, because you succeeded in with wonder painting all its espieglery!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martine...Glad you think I showed the craftiness of this critter.
Thanks, Sherry...But I think I may have overdone it with the leaves....they became competitive with the fox.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned the shadow above the eyes....I sorta liked that part myself.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this! It is like the cover of Aesop's Fables...beautiful
ReplyDeleteAwesome painting, Dean!! I love the way the leaves are working as a camouflage for this little guy! However, I wouldn't want to see him when I hike! LOL...again! Excellent.
