Ontario Autumn
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This painting is in WDE at Wet Canvas. Jean was the host.
Thanks for all the wonderful photos to choose from this week, Jean!
I wanted to try my hand at a landscape and this one sure filled the bill. What a beautiful spot!
I chose to keep it simple and leave out the falls that was in the reference. My reason...I like the peaceful look of the smooth water and reflections.
I tried to follow some plein air painting hints. Simplify... establish the darks first...put in the large shapes...then add some suggestion of detail. The paint is thickest...the lightest light and the darkest dark...the brightest color...are all at the focal point....(Hopefully).

I love the yellow fall colors, the textures of the trees are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteit shows that you have control of the paint here. I think it was great how you used the thick and thin.
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting, lovely!
ReplyDeleteDame Automne est comblée avec votre dernière peinture. Elle, si avide de couleurs, ne peut que vous faire une belle révérence et moi également.

The most beautiful time of the year, (in my humble opinion) and you captured it magnificently!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done! I agree with Michelle about the beauty of Autumn. I think the part of this painting that really sells your center of interest is the out of focus foliage on the left side of the canvas which keeps our eyes in.

ReplyDeleteAlways a joy to read your comments, Saundra! My ego thanks you...Lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks, smArtee!! That texture comes by picking up a blob of paint...put it down in the painting...then leave it alone. Sounds easy, but I always have to fight the tendency to scrub it around.
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen and Celeste. I appreciate your words.
ReplyDeleteHi, Padmaja. I think the dark colors made the water work.
