Memorial Day - Seat Of Honor
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my submission to WDE at Wet Canvas. The reference photo was graciously submitted by Desiree.
The original photo showed a beautiful elderly couple sitting on a bench. There is something uplifting about seeing a couple like this. I compels me to consider all they have seen and been through.
I changed things by adding the uniform and flag to create a Memorial Day tribute to the military heroes. I hope the painting honors all who fought for the US and all the faithful partners who stuck with them throughout it all.
Despite all the ugly rumors, American pride is still alive and well. God bless all who are in the service of our great country...and all who ever were.
Happy Memorial Day everyone!

Ben--Shih Tzu
Acrylic on 8x10 hardboard.
Do you remember when I did the acrylic painting of my neighbor's dog, Max? That was in March of this year. Before that, I painted Jingles for him on Dec. 26 2008.
Well, Jack got a new acquisition a short time ago. It's a little heart stealing Shih Tzu named Ben. Personally I think he's a thinly disguised Gremlin. Sure hope Jack doesn't feed him after midnight.
Here's where to see Jingles and Max.
I'm very fortunate to have the world's best neighbor living just on the other side of my back fence.

Yosemite Landscape
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
Here's my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. It's the Half Dome along with the Mercer River in Yosemite National Park. The reference photo was graciously supplied by Marianne. Thank you Marianne.
All the way through this one I kept reminding myself: don't over mix the paint.... load the tip of the paint brush...apply it in one or two strokes then leave it alone. Had no idea I could be so danged bossy! I'm startin' to get on my nerves...Heh, heh.

Face To Face
Oil on 5x7 hardwood.
This is my contribution to the May challenge at the A Day Not Wasted blog. Lee Brown, the proprietor of ADNW, is a very dedicated artist and photographer. Stop over and join the challenge- it runs for the rest of May.
I chose the crop in really close in order to capitalize on the captivating textures and reflections.
As it happens so often, I was very dubious about the potential problems involved in this still life. But the more I got into it, the happier I became with it. I feel this painting was quite a good learning experience!
I hope you like it.

San Salvador, Bahamas
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This was done for the WDE at Wet Canvas. The reference photo was graciously supplied by a lady who goes by Lisilk.... She actually lives there--lucky lady!
The photo showed this spot in all it's glorious Bahamian color. But just for the heck of it I embellished and invented and came up with this sundown scene. I'm not saying it's better than the original photo. But I can say that it now has the look of a painting and that some of my spirit lives in it.

Dove Love
Acrylic on 8x10 moleskin paper.
This is for the Flying Moleskin project.
This is my entry into Camille LaRue Olsen's moleskin. Her theme is Peace. Hope you like it, Camille!
James Parker did a fine white dove as part of his beautiful entry. I have to second the motion (emotion). So I painted my version. The mourning dove...a very peaceable creature, indeed.
Words that, to me, describe one of my favorite birds, the dove....muted colors...soft cooing call...vulnerable and completely non-threatening.
This will soon be coming to you, Vern.
Genesis 8:11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.

Happy Mother's Day
Acrylic on 8x10 mat board.
NFS
This painting was done in 2004 shortly after the passing of my wife, Kay. Roses were her favorite flower. Roses were also the favorite flower of my mother.
So I post this in memory of the two great greatest people who have ever resided in my heart.
The video is for all the Moms who have gone on.
I have re posted this video from Celeste Bergin's fine blog.

Where The Buffalo Roam
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my submission to Gary Keimig's Wilderness Art Challenge. Gary is a mighty talented artist and photographer who resides in the perfect location...in the Rocky Mountain beauty of Wyoming! He snapped this magnificent bull bison at Hot Springs State Park. What a lucky man!
A few years back, due to some buyers, I fell into the niche of buffalo/bison art...so I'm fairly familiar with them. This was especially fun to paint!

Lake Anna Swans
Acrylic on 8x10 paper.
NFS
These are swans from one of my favorite places...Lake Anna in Barberton, Oh.
A beautiful spot smack dab in a very urban area. Usually filled with walkers, joggers, and just plain ol' bench sitters, My favorite times to be there were early morning or late evening...when everything quieted down.
For the Flying Moleskin Project
This is my entry into Angela Elledge's moleskin. Her general theme is Places. Hope you like it, Angela!Get ready, Vern...comin' atcha! Hope this shipment goes smoother than the last nightmare.
