Sunny Side Of Life-Coyote

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.

This painting was made from a photo supplied by Alain for the WDE at Wet Canvas.

After I had the basic areas of light and shadow blocked in, I created my own colors for the painting. I Applied the paint thickly from the brush almost as if from a painting knife. I enjoyed creating the impasto texture in spots. Hope you folks enjoy it!

Ecclesiastes 11:9 Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see,
but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.

  1. Great color choices! This glows with life. I sense someone is getting closer to trying that palette knife on for size. ;-)

  2. I always admire the life and personality you bring to your animals.

I cracked up reading your "Musing on Monet" post. I loved the daisies! I studied how you were able to render depth and shadow with your precision strokes.

  3. What a beautiful golden animal! There must be so much love in you to render her so perfectly, Dean! Please read "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. The family of coyotes leave a lasting impression on the reader.

  4. A gorgeous coyote, Dean. I love how you have crossed those paws. A pose I've often seen in domesticated dogs as well. For some reason, coyotes touch my heart. I see them occasionally out here where I live and my heart breaks for them. I realize that they are predators, but they are only trying to live, to survive and do what God created them to do. It seems that their lot would be a hard one in this life, to my mind. Trying to scrounge for food, always on the hunt. Exhausting. As you can see, this painting truly has touched my heart this morning.

  5. Hi Dean!... The"foxy" expression on this coyote's face is rich! Seems almost to be smirking... legs crossed. Love the texture in the fur.A really expressive piece!

    Good painting!
    Warm regards,
