Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my contribution to WDE at Wet Canvas. The cat is Keeta and belongs to Sharron, this week's hostess.
I picked Keeta just to paint those eyes!
First I toned the board with red acrylic. I tried to keep the strokes thick and painterly.
Thanks for looking!

Thick and painterly, plus those warm and vibrant colors are your signature style. You are also gifted in capturing the personality of all the animals you paint.
ReplyDeletethis looks considerably like my cat ..."Mufasa" --he gives me a look sometimes like "I am King Kat"--this is the look. Cats are very weird to paint, I think..they have a quality that is hard to achieve. You have done it, however..your cat is very feline and a touch arrogant in a good way.
ReplyDeleteWhat alook!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cat Dean and love the title too.
A great verse for me this a.m., Dean. Thanks so much for that bit of truthful infusion and wisdom. Love this kitty; I thought it was a photo of your cat and when I saw the title of the post on my blog (with the thumbnail), I thought you were sharing a photo of your little pet and going to tell us you had to have a cat scan! So thankful that isn't the case but still marveling at the beauty of this painting! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sheila! Animals are no different to me than human portraits. There is definitely a spirit and personality in each to be searched out.
ReplyDeleteHi Celeste! Thanks for your thought filled comment. I appreciate it a lot, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Irit!
ReplyDeleteLol...I, too, am glad I'm not going in for a cat scan!! Thanks for your encouraging words on the painting!
ReplyDeleteI love your cat Dean. That look is so cat...they give you the impression that they rule.
ReplyDeleteI like the depth you've arrived to give to this cat's eyes and to this suspicious look too.
The group of colors are uncontrollably superb. Bravo for you and the cat! (not so simple to capture a look of cat...)
Wonderful title and wonderful painting, Dean. Fantactic job with the eyes.
