Here's something completely new for me! My first ever painting knife effort! It was pretty freeing to swing the knife. Loved the clean up...swipe with a rag and done (how's that for being lazy?).
I must mention here that Don Michael Jr. really helped push me over the edge of procrastination on trying a palette knife painting. Check out his fine, very inspiring, blog.
PS...Dear readers, I have a question. What is the art term for a painting or drawing which doesn't extend completely the edges (as in my painting above)?? Completely slipped my mind. Oldtimers I fear . Thanks.

Dean, I think you are referring to a vignette...I THINK I spelled it correctly!! Wonderful piece...glad you stretched!!
ReplyDeleteHi Saundra! Yep! That's it...and you did spell it correctly! Thanks!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow Dean... the subject and the method would definitively stretch me...... you did so well.
ReplyDeleteVery exciting piece, Dean...you really captured the movement and thrill of the sport!
ReplyDeleteYour first palette knife painting? You've demonstrated that if one has excellent drawing skills like you, you could probably paint an awesome image with a broom handle if you had to.
ReplyDeleteYou got a wonderful sense of movement in this - I think I felt the ice spray from those speed skaters! Wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteMay be your first with a pallette knife but you sure pulled it off. love the action.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job, Dean, you really captured some serious movement.
ReplyDeleteA Great try...The colors and subject are fantastic...Will love to see more of these types..
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job on this painting----with a palette knife! I have never tried a palette knife painting. I guess maybe I should? I could only hope for 1/2 this kind of success! Great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Dean! Excellent energy. Impressive work with the knife, especially considering the small size of the canvas. Isn't it fun? Thanks for the "shout out".

Wow! "Flash of Skates" fabulous!! I love this painting, Dean. I have to check out the palette knife painter's blog. I already follow two palette knife painters (Ann Gorbett and Tammy Hext) and think their work is absolutely phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteYou've caught the vibrancy and energy of these skaters perfectly Dean! And with a palette knife ! WOW.
ReplyDeleteSuch colors and movement, Dean! You never "bore the eye"!
ReplyDeleteWonderful and exciting Dean. I have done a few palette knife paintings, fun. Wiping the knife off at the end is one of the best parts though.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Dean! Knife painting is one of those things on my list to try someday too....You did a great job - especially for your first try!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great energy, Dean! The palette knife works perfectly in this.
