Olympic Speedskaters

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.

The photo reference for this painting was supplied by Alain for the WDE at Wet Canvas.

Here's something completely new for me! My first ever painting knife effort! It was pretty freeing to swing the knife. Loved the clean up...swipe with a rag and done (how's that for being lazy?).

I must mention here that Don Michael Jr. really helped push me over the edge of procrastination on trying a palette knife painting. Check out his fine, very inspiring, blog.

PS...Dear readers, I have a question. What is the art term for a painting or drawing which doesn't extend completely the edges (as in my painting above)?? Completely slipped my mind. Oldtimers I fear . Thanks.

  5. Your first palette knife painting? You've demonstrated that if one has excellent drawing skills like you, you could probably paint an awesome image with a broom handle if you had to.

  10. you did a great job on this painting----with a palette knife! I have never tried a palette knife painting. I guess maybe I should? I could only hope for 1/2 this kind of success! Great job!

  11. Great job, Dean! Excellent energy. Impressive work with the knife, especially considering the small size of the canvas. Isn't it fun? Thanks for the "shout out".

  12. Wow! "Flash of Skates" fabulous!! I love this painting, Dean. I have to check out the palette knife painter's blog. I already follow two palette knife painters (Ann Gorbett and Tammy Hext) and think their work is absolutely phenomenal!

  15. Wonderful and exciting Dean. I have done a few palette knife paintings, fun. Wiping the knife off at the end is one of the best parts though.
