Fishin' For Complements-Bear

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel

This is my contribution to The Complementary Challenge at DPW posted by a really fine artist, Layne Cook.

Layne's challenge: Using 2 complementary colors (i.e. orange and blue, yellow and purple, green and red) take one color in both directions on the color wheel (for example, orange, red orange and yellow orange) and do not mix the complement (blue) unless it's to make grays (mixed with oranges). You can use white sparingly. The example palettes show the possible color palettes, but not the neutrals. All kinds of yummy grays are possible!

Now THIS was a challenging challenge...Lol! I kept wanting to use forbidden colors to add chroma and values. I stuck with red and green. Red being the variable.

Hope ya like it! :)

  2. I don't know why but it always makes me sad to see bears trying to catch fish. I'm glad to see your ursine beauty captured one! Love what you did with the complements, Dean.
