Eyes On The Prize-Cat

Demo

Step 1
The canvas panel is toned with red acrylic. This provides a mid value in which to work up or down. I also allow some of the toning to peek through the final painting for harmony throughout.

Step 2
I lay in patches of exaggerated color to get a feeling of what may work.

Step 3
I continue applying thicker paint while adjusting colors. I leave it open enough to let the toning show through.

Finished

Oil on 6x6 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Annie was the gracious hostess. Thanks for the great reference photos. This is a photo of Annie's cat, Ember!
This one was a lot of fun! I hope you like it! :cat:

  6. Thanks, Hilda! I really like painting over a colored support. Makes it easier to judge values, also.

  12. Thank you for sharing a bit of your process. I really enjoyed seeing this painting develop. Each stage was so sweet to behold that it would have been easy to have stopped anywhere along the way. She's a BEAUTY!
