Too Hot To Trot-Squirrel

Close ups

This is the original lay in.

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Susan was the gracious hostess. Thanks for the great reference photos.

I liked the squirrel taking a break from the heat of the day. I've watched them do this many times. It looks like they're kicked back and really deliberating something.

This is oil on a 5x7 canvas panel. I first laid the darks in thinly...Then the mids with thick paint but smooshed ( a very painterly term )around a bit....Then finished with thick strokes from brush and knife. This gave a nice build up.
I hope you like it!

  2. It is that background drawing me in on this beauty, Dean. It looks so rich, so luxe. Could be an old masterpiece I am looking at!

  4. Hi Dean. I have never seen squirrels do this. Maybe it doesn't get warm enough here to warrant it. I love your squirrel painting; it is my favorite [so far].
