Morning Glory-Rooster

Close ups

Oil on a 6x6 canvas panel.
Working within the square format was something different for me.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The hostess, Kay, provided great photos to work from.

For the thick strokes, I loosely mixed paint (not over mixed) on the palette. Then I would pick it up on my palette knife. Then pick paint up from the knife with a scoop of the brush. And lastly, apply it in one stroke. This seemed to give some nice unexpected blends and broken color.

  1. This rooster came out beautifully, Dean! It is an inspiration for me as I have a red rooster drawing on a canvas waiting!

  2. I like how you used the same color of the rooster throughout..very appealing!

  3. I love the texture on this rooster and vibrant colors. Excellent!

  4. Great job once again Dean... I also love the mug.
