My Old Flame-Zippo
Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
This is my submission to this week's DPW Challenge. The reference photo was supplied by a really fine artist, Michael Naples. Make sure you check out his blog.
As you can see, this is the famous Zippo lighter. The title, "My Old Flame", refers to memories of a past love. And such was the case with my old lighter...or matches...or anything that would light my smoke! As a smoker, I was a true disciple, I was hooked and loved it!
I gave up smoking in Aug. of '07 and have not turned back for even one little ciggie.....But I must to admit my thumb still twitches at the sight of a Zippo.
I loved the challenge of reflective metal...the great contrast...and tackling those straight edges.

So nice Dean, you have mastered all subjects. I haven't painted anything for this yet but I will, I think, lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Dean. I love that background and the reflection.
ReplyDeleteThe reflecting surface of the metal is done wonderfully well Dean, the background accentuates it!
