Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
For the beach scene posted yesterday, I used dark saturated color in contrast with a few intense lights. So I tried the same approach here. I think I like it...at least at the present time.
This is oil on a 5x7 gessoed hardboard. I first primed the support with black gesso...it makes the color zing right from the first stroke.
The blues aren't quite so overwhelming IRL. They refused to adjust properly.
This painting was done for the WDE at Wet Canvas. The images were graciously supplied by Valri.

Dean...you are beginning to astound me. Marvelous work. And, I meant to comment before, I admire and appreciate your scripture on each post. Those of us with faith that's strong should let it shine. You do.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Dean..I try to make it a point not to leave a link on anyone's comments, but I don't have your E-Mail, so you can delete this if you wish. But I am brokenhearted by news from my friends in Australia. Check out www.brunosart.com and drop me an E-Mail Jpolderndirt2@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteHi James...Thanks for the kind words.
ReplyDeleteThe scriptures are a help to me and I hope they reach out to others as well.
Regarding Bruno...thanks for bringing it to my attention. That is such a tragic loss. But I do like his "don't give up attitude".
I think you have a gift for being exceptional when it comes to painting God's creatures great and small.

Those are the most beautiful, luminous pelicans I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteTruly beautiful, Dean.
Dean, these pelicans are great. One of my favorite birds and you did a bang up job painting them.

ReplyDeleteHi, Vern! Thank you for saying so...much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI like the effect you are getting using the black gesso. Love the light on the Pelicans neck. As you said it pops.
ReplyDeleteI love the pelicans Dean - the color and lighting are great.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Holly. I think the black gesso works great. But at other times I prefer to tone the surface with an acrylic midtone...usually a red-brown.
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying so, Karen.
