Here's something I did just for the fun of it. This was one of the reference photos for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Her name is Valri and she was the hostess of WDE this week.
This is done in the style of Patrick Nagel. He Gained fame in his pop art/poster style by illustrating glamorous ladies for Playboy Mag.
This is acrylic on 6x5 Bristol Vellum paper.

ReplyDeleteVery nice Dean. I've always liked that style. It does amaze me how few strokes can create the most perfect nose!
ReplyDeleteThis is rather well done. I have not tried this sort of style but have admired those who are able to express so much with such few lines.
ReplyDeleteThat is very Nagel-esque! Well done Deano!
ReplyDeleteVery fun! I was a big Nagel fan back in the day. Too bad he's not still around, it would have been intersting to see how his work developed.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Daily Painters Marketplace and thought "wow this is Dean's" I like it! Very different for you, I bet it was fun.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Deano!
ReplyDeleteYes, Brenda...Nagel was very selective of his lines...made for a very sophisticated looking style.
ReplyDeleteHi Pencil Sanity/Maria...Thanks for your kind words. This was my first attempt at his style. I can see where any future attempts along this line could be improved.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Sheila.
ReplyDeleteHi, R Garriott...yes, too bad he had to go at 38 years old.
ReplyDeleteHello, Barbara..Lol...that was a bit different for me, wasn't it? I may try a few more in the style.
ReplyDeleteHi, Edward. Thanks for stopping in and the kind words.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deano! I'll take your sage advice on my painting. You're the best!
ReplyDeleteDean I could tell when I first saw this you had fun painting it. You are so talented - I enjoy seeing all that you do.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great portrait. Sounds fun to try a different style. I love the style of Nagel...makes me think of the old Duran Duran album cover.(Album...what's an album?!)
ReplyDeleteI love to see a talented artist meander about in various styles. This "meandering" is super...I should have hired you to do my wig portracatures.
