Close Ups
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
For the beach scene posted yesterday, I used dark saturated color in contrast with a few intense lights. So I tried the same approach here. I think I like it...at least at the present time.
This is oil on a 5x7 gessoed hardboard. I first primed the support with black gesso...it makes the color zing right from the first stroke.
The blues aren't quite so overwhelming IRL. They refused to adjust properly.
This painting was done for the WDE at Wet Canvas. The images were graciously supplied by Valri.

Beach Outing
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
There's something about this strange color palette that I like. The hot neon pink on the child was strange but I'm glad that I used it. Th dark deep green is a choice I've never used for an ocean before, but I'm glad I used it. Same goes for using a sky that dark blue for a sunny beach scene. I'm pretty used to a new choice working it's way into a painting occasionally, but this bugger's full of 'em. What fun!

Terrific Trio
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
This is my latest entry for Karin Jurick's DSFDF. The reference photo shows a shop window full of mannequin heads and wigs. I isolated it down to three ( there were a bunch in the photo...looked like a PTA meeting). Their colors were mismatched and spooky looking. Hmmm...come to think of it they kinda look like a trio of Super Powered Heroines! Looks like Giraffe Girl on the right...Invaluable to let the others know what is occurring in upper story windows...Strettttcccchhhh.

La Jolla Cove in San Diego
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
This seascape, La Jolla Cove in San Diego, really appealed to me on this wintery day in northeast Ohio. Forecasting more white stuff tonight.
I first toned the support with alizarin crimson acrylic.
I put down generous paint where needed.

Valentine's Day Cat
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
I did a cat last week for WDE, another for my blog, and here's the third cat painting in a row. I seem stuck in this cat-agory.
I first toned the surface with alizarin crimson acrylic.
Although I didn't work a Valentine heart into the painting, my heart is in there. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Invented Color
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
Like many of you, I suppose, I have looked at the work of many, many, talented artists on the internet over the last few years. This has good rewards by showing you what is possible and revealing many things you've never thought of. Techniques and styles galore!
The downside for me was being slowly removed from being myself. I got the feeling that emulation was controlling my painting. So, with that in mind, I dug back and found one of mine that I liked from '06. I painted a loose copy...different crop etc.
The color choices are more intuitive and invented. I don't want to produce a copy of nature or a photograph. I want to produce a piece of art...a painting. At least that's how I feel today. Tomorrow- who knows??

Art Blog Award
I received an AWARD by fellow artist and friend Dominique Eichi. Please check her blog and see her wonderful paintings.
So from what I understand I am to post 7 things I love and pass it along.
so here goes :
1. I love to listen to the sacred sounds of a pre dawn morning...waking bird calls...before the cars and people start to roar.
2. I love the heavenly smell of fresh coffee and sizzling bacon.
3. I love music in the Southern Gospel vein. Other times Country, 50-60's Rock and Roll, Blues, or Classic Standards when I'm in the right mood
4. I love the lure of new tubes of oil paint and the promise which they offer.
5. I love my toy poodle Dolly. She gives unadulterated love and completely forgives my mistakes. If only humans could be as compassionate..
6. I cherish the Holy Word.
7. I love all the excitement of the world of internet art. Blogging is most always a joy!
And speaking of internet excitement and joy, here are 7 talented artists you should check out.

Chicks
Oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard.
I've had this photo in my collection for quite some time-wanting to paint it. I had been painting it in my mind. That is, I was going over what I wanted to try for with this one. I laid in thick paint with a painting knife then went in with a brush. My aim was to have the thick paint inner blend in beautiful ways, creating new and unexpected colors! Textural excitement.
I feel as if I half way got there. Some parts I really like...that's why I've included three close ups.
The chick on the left appears to be too short compared to the one on the right. The painting is true to the photo, but since it looks strange, maybe I should fix it. What do you think??
