Ongoing Elk Saga
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
Well, here's our ol' friend again, Mr. Elk. In yesterday's post, I was uncomfortable with how the body left the paintings right side...a bit abrupt and stark. I like it better now with the darker areas added.
Whatchoo think...Did I improve it or destroy it???

Prov 2:22 For the upright shall dwell in the land shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth and the transgressors shall be rooted out.
For this one, I tried to be a bit more impressionistic. A lot of fun.

I like the portrait effect against the dark background...it really forces the attention on the subject, and produces a huge dramatic effect. Just love doing cows!!
This will be listed on eBay tomorrow (Oct.24) evening.

Calf Half Light
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
I went retro for this one. This is the style I used almost exclusivly in '04 & '05. A lot of fun and I like the result. A lot of mushy, colorful, paint....sometimes applied with a painting knife and either left as is or worked into with the brush. The idea is to have an exciting surface texture and exciting under- mixed paint. Hope ya like it!

True Friends
Oil on 7x5 archival canvas panel.
The last couple paintings I've done were rather tight and detail filled. I enjoyed relaxing with this one. The girl and horse brightened my day. The image for this painting was supplied by Rubyreddog for WDE at Wet Canvas.

This week's New York Stock Exchange photo was a challenge and a half. So much detail to get lost in! I had to concentrate on small areas at a time and paint what I saw...even if it didn't make sense. When I got done and stood back...Wah la...Stock Exchange!

Ohio Sunset-Take Two
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
This is one I simply had the strong urge to re-do a little. Essentially, what I did was to adjust the colors to represent that magical moment just before sunset. I think it is an improvement. What do you think? The original is here.

Girl In Pink
Oil on a 7x5 archival canvas panel.
The photo from which this painting was made comes from Angie at the WDE...Wet Canvas.
Once again I made myself try a different approach. I challenged myself to Paint much looser...Keep edges soft...Underplay detail...Keep the value range higher...Keep colors softer, to fit the subject of the little girl in pink.
I am very pleasantly surprised by the outcome! What do you think?

Cloud Gate Gown
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
This is yet another submission by me to Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks. It's a fun challenge...she puts up a different photo each Wed. night. Artists from all over submit their renditions of it. The variety and creativity is both amazing and educational.
The painting is of Cloud Gate Sculpture in Millennium Park, Chicago. It is also known as 'The Bean'. It has the appearance of a huge mirrored bean. Quite a tourist attraction.
It wasn't easy to paint beacuse of the twisted, contorted images in the reflection. My solution was to simply 'paint what I see'...not 'how I think it should be'. It was great fun to do. Hope that you enjoy it too.
