The macaws looked like they were posing for a Valentine card. It looks like one is whispering sweet nothin's into the other one's ear. The panel was first toned with red acrylic. Thanks for looking and commenting!

The colorful macaw called out to be painted! And he's quite a talker!

In some spots I lay the paint on thick with a palette knife then manipulated with a brush.

Jungle Gem- Macaw

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Marianne was the gracious hostess. Thanks for the great reference photo, Marianne!

I tried a different approach on painting this beautiful macaw.

First I sketched in some key lines with my black Sharpie. Then I applied very thin oil paint in washes. Lastly I selectively gobbed on thick color in focal areas. Much of what you see are thinned washes. Some of the original pen lines were left visible because I thought they added to the look.
It was fun working with the thin washes! I hope you like it!
