Who Brought The Sunglasses?-Geese

Close ups

 Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jeanne supplied a bunch of great reference photos.

The reference photo was of a large group of geese. Wanted to get close, so I cut out most of the flock/gaggle and moved the one on the far right in closer to tighten the grouping.

Mostly all painting knife with a little help from the brushes in the tight spots.
I had a lot of fun playing with those "white colors".

I first covered the panel with white gesso, then applied thinned alizarin acrylic ....then painted the background using black gesso. I find that the alizarin provides a good mid value to judge added values against. And colors really "pop" against the black gesso. Hope some of that makes sense...Lol.

  2. It's fun to see your process....love it! Those geese really look lively! You do get a lovely vibration of colors by using the red underpainting. :)

    1. Hi, Steinunn...Thanks for your gracious comment.
I can't leave a comment on your blog because I'd have to sign up with Google first giving up more information to them than is needed to merely leave a comment.
Also can't find your email address to leave comments on your newest great painting.

  6. Fabulous job on these wonderful active geese. The warm light plays so beautifully next to the cool shadows. Always a pleasure to see art with soul in it.
    PS.
I also have a hard time with the google plus thing. I used to be able to hit on a name and it would take me right to their post.
