Evening Stroll-Cityscape

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Wendy was the gracious hostess.

I rarely try a cityscape...and don't think I've ever tried a nocturnal scene. So here I go, out of my comfort zone.
I was very impressed by Voka and his "spontaneous art" , a link that Wendy suggested. The night scene also reminded me of Doug Dawson and his great pastel work. I tried to channel a bit of each of them for this piece.
The painting evolved quite a ways from the reference pic. I was just concentrating on colors and forms. It sure was interesting.

This is oil on a 7x5 canvas panel. (It was painted over my dragonfly flop of a few weeks back.)

C&C welcome. Thanks for checking me out and commenting!

  3. Good Morning Dean!... Your "light"... certainly shines despite the darkness and overcomes it! How appropriate your quote!

Stepping into darkness... protected by one's own light often presents unexpected discovery... and new comfort!

The warmth of your colour in your nocturne contrast to the darkness works... magically! I sense a Van Gogh feel to this piece... his famous cafe scene, "The Cafe on The Forum du Place at Night."

    Bravo Dean! A small gem!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce
