Muz-Nuz-Horses
Oil on 6x6 canvas panel.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Maureen was the hostess who supplied a lot of great reference photos!
I picked the two young horses...I believe they're called yearlings at this stage. Muz-nuz is my invented word for muzzle nuzzling. A pretty endearing shot.
Developing a background is always an interesting challenge to me. This is one that I hope enhances the mood of the painting in an uplifting, colorful way without competing with the subjects.
Hope ya like it! Comments please...

excellent, Dean....can't believe you can work so small!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the background. Harmonizes well and yet a has a feeling of depth.
ReplyDeleteThe eye is fabulous. My eye went right there.
Dean, you did a great job with the muz-nuz, and I love that term! The bay's head angle is not an easy one to get, and you portrayed it very well.
ReplyDeleteI love your word invention, Dean! My twin granddaughters, always around horses will surely "adopt" this word and will love using it! As always, your painting technique is faultless!
ReplyDeleteI think that background is timeless and magnificent, and an oh so perfect backdrop for these gorgeous ponies. Another wonderfully painted piece, Dean!
ReplyDeleteLove this painting, Dean!! Beautifully done, and I love the background as well.
ReplyDeleteSweet name and a sweet image. I like the way you handled the background, gives the feel of leaves maybe without taking anything away from the horses.
ReplyDeletemy favorite subject...so well composed!
