Intertwined-Figurative

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Kay was the great hostess. Thanks for the terrific reference photos.

I decided on the triple portrait because of the loving, directional gazes. The silent gazes of these lovely ladies speak volumes! I brought the older girl in closer to the grouping. She was way out on the right in the photo.
On this figurative, I tried to avoid hard lines in the features and maintain soft edges. Exact resemblances was not my intention.

Almost entirely by painting knife. I like the exciting surface texture achieved
I hope you like it! :)

  1. I don't like it, I love it! How you captured so much light and color on such a small canvas. Bravo!

  3. So tender and touching, absolutely beautiful! I never would of thought to use a palette knife for this type of intimate painting...and yet you made it work brilliantly!

  5. You have a good composition here and to use a palette knife for such a detailed painting and still get that intimate, close feeling is really an art. Very well done.

  6. Hi there Dean!... A rich and evocative tribute to the power of a Mother's love as a central figure in the Family.

Your rich texture and colour really do capture the eye and your use of the gaze as a compositional element works perfectly!

The picture brings together an image in a simple hymn in my mind from from my earlier Mormon upbringing:

    "There is beauty all around,
    When there's love at home."

    C'est ca!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regrads,
    Bruce
