Progression shots
Oil on 6x6 canvas panel.
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jean was the great hostess. Thanks for the terrific reference photos.
Thought I would post the progression shots. I really liked the markings and minimal background in the first step. Kinda wish I had kept that.

Wow, Dean! I think one of my favorite animal pieces yet. Not only is the lion regal and oh so handsome, but that background is gorgeous! I know it is silly, but I instantly went to thoughts of the Garden of Eden.
ReplyDeletegreat job --I understand what you meant about wishing you'd left the background minimal...but I do like what you wound up with also. You always manage to impart a "largeness" on a small support!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Saundra.....It's great to "see" you again!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nora! I checked out your fine blog...Beautiful and creative work!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sherry! Now that you've mentioned it, The Garden of Eden is in my mind every time I look at it! :)
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your commenting on the "largeness", Celeste!
ReplyDeleteWhen I see other minimal paintings I wish I had the power to just stop in the right spot...but I always give in and paint on.
WOW! Dean...I really like this one. Love the process, color and wonderful texture!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a majestic creature Dean and a great play with texture and colors, thank you for showing the process as well.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
