Let There Be....
Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is my contribution to The Horsing Around Challenge at DPW posted by Carol Marine.
Carol posted this great photo of a horse in morning light. It will be fun to see all the different takes on this.
This painting reminded me of God saying, "Let there be light". On blessed mornings His light shows us the wonders of his Creation.
I did this piece with a painting knife. It's a relatively new technique for me. It's difficult to give up the control of a brush. But highly rewarding to see the possibilities of expressiveness that the knife offers! I hope you like it!

This is so richly, and beautifully painted, Dean!
ReplyDeleteLove the pose and the light.
ReplyDeleteTerrific light! You did a great job with this challenge. Wonderful textures.
ReplyDeleteI love the use of the knife here, Dean! Oil paint is so gorgeous and clean when you put it on in slabs like you've done.
ReplyDeleteNice, cool, colour choice in the horse, too.
Ingrid
Love those beautiful strokes Dean!
ReplyDeleteoh I bet there will be many interpretations of this! Yours will be one of the BEST for sure! Wonderfully painted!
ReplyDeleteThere is such a beautiful gentleness in this piece, Dean. The light is exquisite.
ReplyDeleteMasterful handling of that morning light. It's so alive, I expect to see a snort of warm horse breath. And with a knife yet! Fine work Dean.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are becoming more and more proficient with a palette knife. My few attempts have been disastrous, but I'm sure with more practice I would be able to use it. I love the composition and light in this piece.
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job with the palette knife!! I love the texture. I hope to see more of your paintings done this way..I tried working with the knife and it flipped out of my hand..no more!
ReplyDeleteIl est bon de retrouver vos oeuvres après plus de 6 semaines d'absence... Je rentre tout juste des Philippines...
ReplyDeleteUn challenge bien réussi... Le travail au couteau n'est pas un chose aisée... Bravo.
Gros bisous

ReplyDeleteYou've captured it all... and on a 7x5 format!
"Let there be Light"... "
"Let your Light shine before your fellow man... that he may see your good works..."
You know the rest... and you have accomplished all of that here every post... in spades Dean!
Good Painting!
