Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.Thought I'd run this by you folks. I didn't have a lot of time to paint today, so I whipped this up to check some facets of landscape painting that I have been mulling over. Less is more...a touch of red near a point of interest...just basically the power of suggestion.
I don't yet know how successful it is since it's so fresh in my mind.
Do you think it's overdone or underdone...or as the baby bear says: "Just right."?

Funny, Dean...I wrote about "suggestion" on my blog today too. Great minds! Well, your painting looks exactly like noon. It has a lot of the same middle tones in it and a lot of the same greens. None of that is critical..just observation. I think it is successful for capturing the middle of the day. Is the center of interest the animals?

I think that you want the center of interest to be the animals, right? But, you have the diagonal line of grass going away from the animals to the house. That confuses my eyes. So, if you would change the diagonal to be headed toward the animals, my eye would go to the animals, too,

ReplyDeleteYou're right...the greens are too slightly differentiated. Plus I definitely feel a lack of contrast...the darks aren't strong enough.
All this wasn't quite as evident yesterday...though I had nagging suspicions that it needed improvement.
ps Celeste...The cows and lower parts of the large tree trunks above them were my intended focal point.
