Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
Jill Polsby coordinated a project put together to say "thank you" to Karin Jurick. Karin runs the great Different Strokes From Different Folks blog. Throughout the year Karin keeps us involved by posting a photograph (almost monthly) from which all the artists paint their own versions. Running her blog takes great effort and time on her part.
Her premise is many paintings from one photo. Very entertaining and educational.
118 artists have painted a portrait from the same photo of Karin as a means of saying thank you. These have been put together in a book which will be presented to Karin.
You can view all 118 paintings here. They are beautiful and highly varied! Excellent job, gang!

Wonderful rendition! I haven't done any of Karin's challenges in awhile. I love visiting the website though, and I marvel at all the talented artists there.
ReplyDeleteYou really captured her image Dean, really nice brushwork...wish I could be a fly on the wall when she first sees the book!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. Yours is a strong painting. Nice brushwork, color, value... She will be thrilled with this one.
ReplyDeleteNice painting Dean! After looking at her photo for the hours it took to paint her, her image was pretty well locked in my memory and it was fun going through and picking the paintings that captured her the best (in my humble opinion), and yours was certainly one of them. Wasn't this fun?
ReplyDeleteIt was a great challenge and what a surprise it will be for Karin. Your painting truly captures her Dean, for me, I had trouble with her mouth on my painting, but yours hit it on the nose! Good job!

ReplyDeleteYou portrait is one of my favorite! This was not an easy challenge but you captured her expression beautifully.
ReplyDelete*sigh* beautifully done in your signature color palette evoking a deep and thoughtful Karin. One day I want to do this well.
ReplyDeleteCan I just echo what has already been said? Absolutely wonderful; Karin will love your painting!
ReplyDeleteFantastic work, Dean. Karin has been an inspiration to so many of us. I love this!
ReplyDeleteWell, I am disappointed that the DSFD--thing is coming to a close? Will Karin start it again in the future? She is an amazing artist and someone who inspires! I looked at all the many versions of her (which...she had to think was weird--lol!) and yours is a real beauty. It is so fun to see all the versions!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job, Dean, and such wonderful brushwork!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic portrait, Dean. I love your expressive brushwork, and think you really captured an excellent likeness. I found the mouth area challenging, and you positively nailed it. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAgain a beautiful portrait Dean and I also believe absolutely one of the best in the Karin line-up!
ReplyDeleteDean, you have done a most magnificent job with Karin's portrait. I love the shadows you've captured with your brushwork. Gorgeous!!

ReplyDeleteYou got a lot of mileage out of a limited palette! Very nice. There's a lot to look at in all of your recent work. I think the painting a day (or nearly) is really paying off for a lot of folks, including you!
