Fab Four

Close ups

This is mixed media. Acrylic washes used as watercolor...Tombow and Pitt Pens...color pencil

This is my contribution to Liz Holm's Flying Moleskin book. Her theme is portraits. I decided to attempt an illustration of the Beatles..the Fab Four. I like doing star portraits because they are so recognizable. I enjoyed drawing stars from the movie mags as a youngster.

I tried to take the attitude of an illustrator for this one because I am fascinated by their work. I wanted to keep the colors more inventive as opposed to realism.

colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

  1. Very nice Dean. Love the concept and orininality of handling the art piece.
Sorry to hear about your Buddy. Have done that a few times myself and it is not easy
God bless and keep up the great work

  2. OMG!!! I was one of the teen girls who screamed at the showing of "Hard Day's Night". You did a fantastic job! Liz is so lucky to get four portraits from one fabulous contributor.

  3. I grew up with these Beatles. Wonderful illustrative piece. I love all the added colors and movements.

  4. Dean these are wonderful portraits for Liz. I love the way you handled the hair drawing with pens and then adding colour. Great painting.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and companion Dean. I know this is a tough one for you.
    All the best.

  5. Dan - you have outdone yourself. I love the colors, and adore the portraits of these icons. You're the best.
    Thank you!

  6. You did an amazing job here--I couldn't be so brave as to tackle 4 portraits of people as recognizable as the Beatles--you pulled it off.

  7. Groovy, Dean! Love the Fab Four and you've really captured their likenesses. Thanks for putting my favorite 2 up front. Lucky Liz!

  8. Spot on Dean! What with Elvis' birthday and you painting the Beatles - there's a feeling of age creeping up!

My heart goes out to you for your Little Dolly. She looked special and I wish everyone in the world would adopt that prayer.

  9. Fabulous! What a great portrait, Dean!

  10. Dean...great job on the Fab Four.

  11. Love this Dean! Reminds me of my mom who always sang me Beetles songs as a babe!!

  12. Fabulous job, Dean! I really like the approach you took.
