Native American

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

Once again I just had fun with a lot of color, heavy paint, and texture.
I believe paintings of this nature tend to gain more viewer involvement. I know that I, for one, enjoy studying a surface full of action and mystery.

The photo was supplied by Chris for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Like the last DSFDF, this photo was black and white. I enjoyed conjuring up the color! This is a photo of Jack Big Plume Sarcee Tribe 1923 Photo courtesy the Glenbow Museum Archives.

  1. Great job Dean! Very interesting choice of color...the purples. I'm not sure what pallette I would've chosen. I would hope it would be as interesting as yours!

  2. Fantastic, Deano! Strong colors to match his strong features. Love the way the texture is so heavy around his eye making "wrinkles". Brilliant.

  8. If you've read Lonesome Dove, this reminds me of Blue Duke...ominous and elegant. Great job!

  16. Thanks Gary and Irit...I always have to stay mindful of the brushstrokes...it's too easy to just blend them all away.
