This is in answer to Karin's latest challenge for the DSFDF.
Quite a different challenge! I have always admired other painters' cityscapes but felt strangely compelled to admire them from a distance. Well thanks to Karin, I feel inaugurated.
I think it helped to pre mix most of the colors so as to encourage me not to be stingy with the paint.

psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God;I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth.
Beautiful, Dean! There's something about those bright yellow taxis that are fascinating to look at. Too bad the drivers weren't better at driving them:)
ReplyDeleteDean, Great job on this challenge! I have the same thing on my desk...trying a collage...whew...you did great!!
ReplyDeleteGreat piece Dean,
ReplyDeleteI love your purple/blues against the yellows of the cabs.
This is beautiful i can feel the tempo of this city in the painting.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are great i agree with D.
Beautiful Dean, I especially like the way the yellow sky links with the taxi's! You captured the feel.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy! Bright taxis rushing this way and that...part of the excitement of NYC...but if I were a passenger, it would be about 10 times more excitement than I need! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Saundra. I'm really looking forward to your collage! My curiosity has been piqued! I'm sure it will look great!
ReplyDeleteHi, Dominique...thanks very much. I like to use complementaries much of the time.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks,Irit!
ReplyDeleteHi, Carol...thanks for mentioning the yellow sky...I was hoping it would tie in.
ReplyDeleteDean, this turned out wonderful! Your style of painting is SO compatible with the cityscape!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deb! I really appreciate your opinion on this. Might try a few more soon.
ReplyDeleteDean, this is a great rendidtion. The complements work so well together. And you really got the simplification of the buildings further down the street.
ReplyDeletethere is nothing quite like a good taxicab/city painting..I love that artists know that this type of scene has as much beauty as a Hawaiian seashore! You nailed it.
ReplyDeleteDean, you really punched this up by changing the time of day and giving the piece your trademark warmth. Great painting.
ReplyDeleteDeano!!!! You did it again! I love your choice of colors.
ReplyDeleteLove the addition of the vibrant colors...it realy brings a lot more action and activity to the cityscape. You should continue with more city scenes, your buildings are so expressive!
ReplyDeleteDean I love your bright use of color and your advice about mixing up a big batch of paint before starting. I am a beginner and my one of my problems is that I don't use enough paint.
ReplyDeleteNice painting, Dean! Iespecailly like the play of the purple street to the yellow sky.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone here! I love your purple street and yellow sky, the first thing I noticed...very pleasing to the eyes!
ReplyDeleteI love your version, Dean. So warm, so creatively done. Great job! I was looking at your other work and I'm a new fan of yours. Love the brushwork and the colors.
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice Dean! Your color is standout...the purple street, and yellow sky as compliments give the painting a lot of energy, just like New York!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors! I know what you mean about cityscapes....daunting, but you, Dean, can paint anything and fill it with life and beauty. I'm convinced.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as this post came up, I could hear honking horns and smell the smog. Nice work. Oh, and Dean, I hope you get a chance to read my article on Empty Easel about our blog community. I'd love to have your opinion.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam...I truly appreciate your observations!
ReplyDeleteRight on, Celeste! I agree completely...to a painter, beauty can be found most anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vern...Changing a photo is something I normally strive to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann, for the much appreciated encouragement! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Debbie...Not using enough paint has been my trademark problem...and I've been painting for years. Doesn't pay to be too stingy with the paint.
ReplyDeleteThank you, R...I appreciate your supportive words.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol...I love playing up complements!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Camille...I really appreciate your comment!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a follower, :)
Thanks, Dana! Your version of this was a real knockout!!
ReplyDeleteHi, James...That was one well written article! It mirrors my being acquaintance to the excitement of art blogging.
ReplyDeleteI found it strange that there appeared to be no way to leave a comment on the Empty Easel site.
Hi, Liz! Wow, thank for the huge compliment! Comments like that make me try harder!
ReplyDeleteThis painting is really stunning. So much inferred detail in such a little space.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maria...I truly appreciate your comment.
ReplyDeleteReally fantastic..!!I love your take on NYC Robin
ReplyDeleteAgain, I have to agree with the others. I love the warmth and glow of the yellows/orange against the purple. Nice proportions too.
ReplyDeleteI really like the whole thing, but the area that makes me melt is the upper right with the yellow sky and the indication of buildings. There's something very pleasing about the loose paint application, the dark outline around the flatly painted building, and the way the colors vibrate against each other.
ReplyDeleteNicely done I always love a yellow sky, love the energy you got on your piece :)
