Once again I just had fun with a lot of color, heavy paint, and texture.
I believe paintings of this nature tend to gain more viewer involvement. I know that I, for one, enjoy studying a surface full of action and mystery.
The photo was supplied by Chris for the WDE at Wet Canvas. Like the last DSFDF, this photo was black and white. I enjoyed conjuring up the color! This is a photo of Jack Big Plume Sarcee Tribe 1923 Photo courtesy the Glenbow Museum Archives.

Great job Dean! Very interesting choice of color...the purples. I'm not sure what pallette I would've chosen. I would hope it would be as interesting as yours!
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Deano! Strong colors to match his strong features. Love the way the texture is so heavy around his eye making "wrinkles". Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteIt is really very well done! Colours are vibrant and he seems to be alive!
ReplyDeleteWow :-)
Mr. Dean, His expressions are superb and realistic..the color compose is excellent...:)
ReplyDeleteAs always, Dean. Great use of color and brush work.

ReplyDeleteI love his strong, thoughtful expression. Great use of color.
If you've read Lonesome Dove, this reminds me of Blue Duke...ominous and elegant. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHey, Mr. Dean, there is something for you on my blog..:)
ReplyDeleteGREAT painting, Dean! Wonderful colors and you handled the hair beautifully.
ReplyDeleteYour invented color is quite convincing! Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteLove the subject Dean, such great character
ReplyDeleteHi, Deb..the purples were an after thought...something to counter the yellows.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gwen! My, you are observant!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mi and Megha...I truly appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary and Irit...I always have to stay mindful of the brushstrokes...it's too easy to just blend them all away.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the brush work on this one.
Thank you, Mellisa...I'm enjoying the new work and photos on your blog!
ReplyDeleteNo, sadly I didn't read Lonesome Dove, Lee.
