 I decided to try some ducklings this week. I came up with a new name for this painting technique...it's called Lotsa!!!

This is the photo.
I zoomed in to the far middle background...the small bit of exposed water with ducks/geese around it.
My goal for this piece was to keep it extremely loose and to imply detail. I used my trusty painting knife to advance the foreground.
I have also have begun exploring a technique developed by a very skillful artist, Julie Ford Oliver.
I have merely scratched the surface of this process. She calls it fracturing...Check her out...amazing work!

This is my contribution to The White On White Challenge at DPW posted by Ann Feldman.
Ann's Challenge: "For this week's challenge, let's try to paint white subjects on white backgrounds to see if we can find color and value in all that white!"

These three little cygnets with mom close beside was quite a challenge! I had already decided to do the next challenge via the palette knife.
So for me, this was a challenge on top of a challenge.
I hope future viewers can fathom what this painting represents without me following it around to explain it.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The hostess was Scatty, and she provided great reference photos.

Something about ducks always seem happy and many times humorous.
I liked how these guys were gathered around eyeballing the main duck. They were either admiring him or were about to boot him from the flock for some ducky infraction.

The Sentinel-Canada Goose

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The hostess, Lin, provided the photos.
I chose the Canada Goose who looks so alert. Geese elect a guard, or a sentinel, to watch out for predators while the rest of the flock is busy attending to business such as feeding. Quite a responsibility. This guy looks like he's up to the task.

This is oil on a 7x5 hardboard. I tried to push the color and be generous with the paint. I switched brushes from my usual flats to rounds that use to be my mainstay some time ago. Guess what? I like 'em all over again!

Eider Pair

The image for this painting was supplied by Alain for the WDE at Wet Canvas.
I elected to paint this great looking pair of eider ducks. I was familiar with them through paintings and photos for years...was always fascinated by the beautiful plumage. It was a treat to finally paint 'em.
I first toned the support with red acrylic...it gives me a medium value to work from, plus I like to leave it peeking through the finished product for excitement and harmony.

Swan

This is a return to my original style . I love to play complementaries against each other...to push the color...and create an interesting surface texture via paint texture. And, of course, I just enjoy doing the graceful lines of swans . Hope y'all enjoy it.
