Ray, A Golden Drop Of Sun-Deer

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Kay was the gracious hostess.
Just had to paint this doe.
I immediately started hearing the Julie Andrews song from The Sound Of Music, "Doe A Deer". Thus the long title, "A Drop Of Golden Sun" (I emphasized the sun behind the doe's head.

The reference photo

Once again, The background is completely "fly by the seat of your pants" made up from the imagination.
Oftentimes, when doing a background like this...not having an idea of where I'm going...it can be pretty intimidating and can be easily put off "until later". But when I jump right in ( like jumping into a pool of COLD water)  I feel especially rewarded . I mean of course, when it turns out at least half way right. I enjoy seeing all the paint surprises that happened along the way.

    1. Thank you, Sunny. Much of the background was "invented" by the paint itself. Merely by adding it and moving it around and seeing what to keep.
