English Sheepdog-Portrait

Close ups

Oil on 6x6 canvas panel..

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. The hostess was Bonnie, and she provided great reference photos.

I believe this is an Old English Sheepdog.

I tried to use the principles of Yin and Yang in this puppy portrait.
This means opposite factors. Thick paint versus thin...Light vs dark...Warm vs cool. I also like the ability to look down through the development (layers) of the painting. From the thick finishing strokes right on down to beginning...the bare spots of canvas...with all the development in between.
At the moment, I'm happy with how this one turned out.

2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

  1. I definitely see the yin yang! He is so cute....I want him!

  2. He's adorable and I love the way you painted him. The colors are great, and I really like the soft, yet graphic, quality.

  3. He is beautiful, Dean! At first I thought it was a Spinone Italiano. He reminds me of my beloved Giovanni that has passed away.

  4. The colours are so well balanced here... your pet portraits are very always adorable!
