The Swing Of Things

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

The photo for this painting was supplied by Tim for this week's WDE at the fabulous Wet Canvas.

Tried to keep it free and easy.... Not overly detailed...Plenty of paint in each stroke.

  5. Lovely. I especially like the shadows and light in the pants, very well done. I see that you mention your paintings are done on "hard board" - I am curious as to what exactly that is? Is it like gessoed mason board? Matting boards? I would love to know as I am always looking for new ideas. Sure have been enjoying your work!

  6. Nicely done, Dean! I really like how you've captured the gesture and balance of the figure so well - and with so few strokes. Masterful...

  7. Hey Dean, The golf swing is very specific and a golfer can spot if the artist has fudged and the weight is on the wrong side, or the club face is in the wrong place. Believe me when I tell you that the golf swing is depicted wrong in art more often than it is depicted right. This painting, however, is 100% perfect. He's a good golfer and he probably made par.

  8. Hi Dean, nice atmosphere of a sporting day! I also admire your previous post of rocks as I have been battling with large boulders in the same week(the post is not final). Dean, it was a thrill for me to stumble upon the very kind remarks you made about me on Liz's blog. One feels wonderfully secure in the bloggosphere if friends are like that!

  9. Hi, Julia...the hardboards that I use are 1/8 inch ready-to-paint, tempered hardboard panels that are factory-coated with gesso. They are super hard...must be a type of masonite. I get them from Dick Blick. Very reasonably priced. Just go to Blick and enter "Gessoed Hardboard Panels" in the Search.
    I really like them!

  11. really nice Dean.
I really like what you did with the Sedona piece. That is great country and has so much potential for an artist. So many people have moved into the area though that it takes a lot of artistic lisence to paint out the modern houses. Would be hard for John Ford to do a Cowboy movie nowadays.

  14. Love the painting, love the scripture. The scripture reminds me of Tiger Woods.
