Oil on 5x7 hardboard.
I did these otters in order to show intense light and some texture. My goals were to keep the paint interesting...to avoid boredom. Not sure I succeeded but it was a fun painting.
The photo was supplied by Jerri for this week's WDE at Wet Canvas.

You absolutely succeeded! You've got great light and texture!
ReplyDeleteThis made me chuckle, otters are great!
ReplyDeleteThey are great! What a cute group. Perfect title, too. you get so much personality down with those sculptural strokes. love it!
ReplyDeleteThese otters are absolutely wonderful, Dean - GREAT job.
ReplyDeleteLove this and the title, it is sure not boring. I agree with Pam, great light and texture.
ReplyDeleteNot boring at all. As a matter of fact, there is much to see that keeps my eye wondering around the canvas. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really fun looking painting. I love the light on the throat, and the inquisitive looks on their faces!
ReplyDeleteFantastic Deano! They actually look so cute, but I believe they can be little terrors! Love the way you layer your paint!
ReplyDeleteGreat title but I love the painting. The light is fabulous - you are just so talented!
ReplyDeleteDean this is wonderful! Definitely NOT boring...the way they are posed gives all the interesting shapes the "negative" space needs to make a painting interesting. The lights and darks just cinch it! Made me really smile...thanks for the present of that today!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting painting, because the viewer is drawn in to the expressions on the otters. I don't know how you do it - give such expression in a loose style. I keep messing paintings up, trying to emulate that painterly sort of look. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pam...happy to know you think I succeeded! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, Sam...I have always felt they display cheery attitudes.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz...Your words brighten my day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Edward...much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteHi, Barbara! I just left your blog...that's a great painting of the dog!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maria! It's good to know that you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dana! your comment means a great deal. :)
ReplyDeleteI, too, believe they could be little terrors if they so chose to be. But they sure broadcast the appearance of curious little fun seekers!
ReplyDeleteAww, shucks, Karen...back atcha!
ReplyDeleteSaundra...thanks so much for your thoughts on this painting! Thanks for taking the time. It means a lot to me!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the very kind words, Deb!
ReplyDeleteLove this one, Dean. Those brush strokes are gorgeous. Really great the way you captured so much expression without getting into a lot of detail.
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you captured the drama in the scene. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNothing boring about this one...well done on the composition and especially the lighting.
ReplyDeleteI love the otters! You just get better and better...
