Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
I hope y'all aren't sick of seeing the crows/ ravens, 'cause here's another one.
I came across this great reference photo and I really liked the composition...the great shape of the negative space!
After thinking about it, I came up with another reason I like this theme...I feel that crows and Fall go together. With that in mind, I like playing the blue/ purple feather highlights against the wild abstract, complementary, Autumn colored background.

This is very stunning and caught my eye right away. The BG is amazing and the shine of the feathers, WOW!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! This just pops! What a striking piece.
ReplyDeleteI love how you can move from fun and whimsical like "Boston Terrier" and go to cityscapes and then bounce right into your amazing bird and animals paintings.
I agree with you, love the negative space; just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou have so many great new pieces on here Dean. Love these beautiful Ravens. Their intense indigo and blue feathers look fantastic next to the bright oranges and yellows. They have that sharp, intelligent, playful look on their faces. Really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the little Boston too! What a cutie. Great composition. I like the way you split the canvas with the red and white striped t-shirt and shorts. Love the boys body language and the expression on the little dogs face. Nice job!
An absolutely wonderful painting, my friend!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely I am not bored of your paintings..:) You are a fantastic artist! I love the ravens especially the smaller one..:)

ReplyDeleteDean..I love your crow series....I hope you'll do more. I love the First Nation ideas about crows and ravens..they are very highly regarded. I have always liked crows very much. Here is an entry on my blog that I'd like you to read!

Hi, Celeste...Yes, the crows were supposed to be messengers from the other world to this one.
ReplyDeleteTheir appearance is very mystical to me.
As mentioned in a previous post, one was my companion for awhile. He was intelligent and quizzical.
The link was great...Lol, that crow was considering adopting you. Wonder what message it was trying to tell you??? Hmmm...
I had a lot of good fortune after his visit...I would like him to visit me again! Maybe I will have to purchase one of your beautiful crow/raven paintings to get him to come back to me! lol
ReplyDeletewell done Deano. You are really hitting these blue-black colors. Like what you are doing with these close ups. Kinda one on one encouters.
ReplyDeleteWhat a powerful piece! Your birds are great, but that bright background with all the movement really makes this impactful!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your black birds! - very close to my soul they are... Great job on the hands above, too!
