Longhorn
Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.
I tried pre mixing most my colors before starting to apply any paint. I thought I'd give this method a try. A very good artist that I've been watching uses this method. His name is Frank Gardner...you can see him here.
It sped the process somewhat, but I tended to keep adding and changing the colors as I painted. I felt I wound up painting just like I have for the last trillion years. You all know the story about old dogs and new tricks, heh. Pre mixing is a commendable method....I'll have to do more to get it down properly. Thanks, Frank!
Happy Easter everyone!!

I didn't see that one coming Dean. That is a pretty big compliment. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your giving this a try.
It takes some getting used to and works better with some compositions than others. I am going to keep writing about this and explain different ways to explore this pre mixed approach.
I like the freshness of this painting.
You're welcome, Frank. Thanks for more posts about this approach.I think I am really going to explore the pre mixed method.
ReplyDeleteHi Dean, This guy really looks great against this background. I too plan to try Franks way soon. I think it sounds like a great idea, we'll see how I do with it. Barb
ReplyDeleteAnother great one. I really like the background color in this. The cow just stands out beautifully.
