The Gaze-Child Portrait

 Close ups

This is acrylic, graphite, colored pencil, and a dab of ink via Uni Pin on Cotman Water Colour pad.
Approx.9"x7".

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Mary was the host and provided a bunch of great photos! Mary issued a challenge to do this week's painting on a surface you have not painted on before..... So this is in answer to the challenge. Though I have painted in this pad a few times, it's still comparatively new to me.
The girl is Felicity.... Felicity's gaze really spoke to me.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting!

Matthew 19:13-15         Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away.

  2. Another jaw dropper of a piece, Dean. I think this is beautiful and I love seeing you work in a medium that I've not seen from you before (graphite). Love that you gave her those gorgeous blue eyes too.

    1. Yes, the WDE challenged us to paint on a different support than usual.
It's always fun to stretch out a little.

  4. Good morning Dean!... Your skillful manipulation and use of the empty space and minimal additional supporting information effectively locked one's eyes on what was your intended focus... her truly beautiful and innocent eyes.'

Young children have possess that unusal ability to engage you... bewitch you... and tug lovingly at your heart. Your wonderful painting does that very thing! Another "wee" gem Dean! Bravo!

Good Painting and Happy Fall Dean !
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

    1. I had to build toward the detail very slowly so that I wouldn't lose the intended softness that I wanted. Thanks, Celeste!
